Why are German cockroaches so successful in infesting buildings and homes?
German roaches use their small stature, ranging from 1/2 to 5/8 inch long, to their favor. They can easily conceal themselves in cracks and crevices all throughout the house, generally seeking out dark and moist environments. German roaches also have a very high population growth rate, they breed continuously. A female German roach is able to produce up to one million eggs in a lifetime!
Well, since German roaches are so elusive, how am I supposed to get rid of them?
- Sanitation – Clean up all spilled food, don’t let dishes sit overnight, empty your garbage every evening, and store pantry food like cereal and crackers in a sealed container.
- Structural repairs – Insulate around pipes, repair leaks, and caulk gaps around sinks and pipes that pass through to other rooms.
- Control – Baiting is a safe and effective method used to control German roaches. It allows the treatment to be specifically targeted to certain locations that roaches are known to nest, and lures any wandering roaches to those areas using an attractant. This gives the technician the advantage of staying a step ahead of the roaches, while allowing the technician the ability to place the baits in areas that will be hidden to children and pets, but irresistible to roaches.
