Top 5 Scariest Bugs in the Northeast

scariest bugs

In honor of Halloween, we’re thinking about the scariest bugs in the northeast. Some look creepy, and others instill fear with what harm they can cause. Here’s our countdown:

5. Termites

This bug makes our scariest bug list because of the damage it can do to your home and wallet. Did you know they cause US homeowners over $5 billion dollars in damage every year?

4. Assassin Bug

If the name doesn’t scare you, the assassin bug’s habits sure will. This large bug will sometimes wear the bodies of its kills as armor. Creepy, right!? Plus, its bite is super painful.

3. House Centipede

There’s a chance you’ve seen this creepy pest around your home. It’s like an elongated spider and just as fast. They are almost completely harmless, but looking at one can create nightmares—especially when you discover one scurrying around your bathroom in the middle of the night.

2. Pelecinid Wasp

This wasp has a long frightening tail that looks like a giant stinger. Lucky for us, it can’t sting, and it’s actually a very beneficial pest for the environment as it kills off beetles but generally poses no threat to humans. Still, it is an impressive looking pest, and certainly one that can cause a bit of fear if you come across it.

1. Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes might not make the top of your list for the scariest bugs because they’re a common foe in our area during the summer. It makes our list because it’s one of the deadliest pests around the world. They carry serious and potentially deadly diseases, like West Nile virus, Zika virus, Malaria, Dengue, Encephalitis, and Heartworm.
